I read an article today that mentioned how the ability to integrate with existing applications and infrastructure should be a key factor when selecting your Web Content Management solution. I think what is important to note is not just integration, but as Stephen Powers mentions in a recent blog post, the “quality” of integration. Sitecore’s API is very extensive and as John West posted back in August in his Differentiating Sitecore Blog, using Sitecore’s extensive Application Programming Interface (API), you can integrate virtually any application with Sitecore.

Partners and prospects are always asking about what makes Sitecore better than or different from other Content Management Systems. This question is a loaded one, as what makes a CMS better than another typically comes down to what it is that you want out of it. As you have probably read a thousand times, the ability to deliver a CMS project is difficult because of all of the moving parts. Ultimately when I have seen successful CMS projects, it comes down to putting together a plan and gathering requirements from all parties involved (yes the technical team and the marketing team have to work together) and using those requirements to evaluate what solution fits your organization and business best. Sitecore and Marketing Automation

As everybody probably knows by now, with the release of the Online Marketing Suite 6 months ago, Sitecore is giving our clients the ability to turn their websites into true marketing machines.

The following capabilities are available through Marketing Automation tools and have been around for quite some time:

I have been talking a lot about the OMS lately and some of the questions I have been getting are around how does Sitecore compare to tools like Merkato, Eloqua, etc…As marketing automation is something that is somewhat new to my repertoire I have to be honest and say that I haven’t done a ton of research on these other tools. That being said (I love this phrase), what I have come to learn and understand about these tools is, although they are very good at doing all of the things I mentioned before, you can’t do this on your entire website, without some serious development work.

With Marketing Automation tools, things like campaign management, personalization, testing and optimization are one offs. While extremely helpful and important to understanding your clients and prospects, they aren’t truly tied into the website. This is where Sitecore comes in. Sitecore with the Online Marketing Suite will allow you to do those things the Marketing Automation tools throughout the entire site, not just on a landing page, newsletter, or banner ad.
